At the end of ' Apocalypse Now ' the movie .Marlon Brando uttered the words
' the horror .... the horror '/those words have always resonated with me .
In my life I have seen many horrors .The first time I saw a dead body was when I was working in a psychiatric hospital and a patient had committed suicide by stabbing himself in the throat with a pair of scissors.Not an image that leaves you for a while.
The recent Orlando massacre made me think of this .I don't know why , Maybe just the randomness of it.Blood and lots of it is visceral - look up the word - goes beyond thought processes -it is primal - ask any ambulance officer- paramedic- cop- fireman -rescue person - soldier - nurse etc.
But it is not senseless murder.It IS PREMEDITATED it is almost expected in a weapons fueled amphetamine environment of this century.The drug of choice is " ice '' .No mellowing out now .
It is all polarized extremes /.
When we entered this century .....but that was before Sept 11 .
everything changed .
Anyway nothing I say is gonna make any difference
I feel like Colonel Kurtz.
( without of course the complete decent into madness )...at least I hope so !

That's the sad thing as a species it seems we are stuck and myself is as much to blame .

Art and Art .
I have been thinking about art and the relationship it has with the artist .
The recent Michael Jackson controversy is a perfect example .
Can we separate the art from the artist or are they so entwined that this is impossible ?
My argument is we can , as long as the art is not exploitative of
a situation that is unpalatable.
But then again this raises more conundrums.
Some of the most striking art is propaganda art.
Acknowledging the expertise of a recruiting poster does not necessarily mean we are pro - war

Thinking and THINKING
I have been thinking about thinking.Now this is not an original thought .
Everybody has thought about this.I think.I am gonna have to watch this train of thought
or I am going to end up wrapped up in my own words better than a food item in the supermarket !!!

Nothing and Nothing
I have been thinking about nothing today.
Well not exactly nothing ( I can see I am gonna bind myself up in knots with this )
or is that '' nots '' see it's happening already !!!
No , not the nothing of a blank stare of a boss who has just been asked for a pay-rise
or the nothing look of a police officer when you come up with some idiot reason about
why you did something you shouldn't have done.
I am thinking about the joy of doing nothing.
The Italians have a phrase for it :
''Il Dolce far Niente ''.
The Australians also have a phrase for it.
